So far the San Antonio Commanders have signed six running backs to their current roster. Two of the three featured in the article have former NFL experience, but all bring various talent to the Commanders backfield. With each player hungry to make a name for themselves within the new AAF league, let’s take a look at what each brings to the table.
Khiry Robinson Age: 28 Weight: 220 lbs Height: 6ft
Robinson is one of the most recognizable names on the current roster, and for good reason as he had found success in the NFL with the Saints. Robinson is a running back that runs angry, he is a physical bruiser and will make defenders pay if they try to tackle him high or choose to test his stiff arm. I can see Robinson as being the potential three-down back for San Antonio due to being the most experienced on the roster with his prior NFL tenure. A fractured tibia in 2015 and broken leg with the Jets in 2016 would cause teams to pass on the RB due to injury risk, but if Robinson can stay healthy, he can easily be a star RB for San Antonio.
Max Mickey Age: 24 Weight: 190 lbs Height: 5ft 9in
With one of the most impressive highlight reels of the three backs, it is easy to see why the SA Commanders would want Mickey in their backfield. His elusiveness and speed are something that makes him stand out among the other backs. He reminds me a lot of the Chicago Bear’s RB Tarik Cohen, with the way he can bob and weave from defenders and the home run threat he possesses with his breakaway speed. In 2016 Mickey rushed for 1,764 yards and 19 TDs with an average of 8.65 yards per carry at USF. One thing is for sure with Mickey, is that when he touches the ball fans will be in for a show.
Daryl Richardson Age: 28 Weight: 206 lbs Height: 5ft 10in
Richardson is another back with prior professional experience having played in the NFL with the Rams in 2012, and finally being cut with the Colts in 2017. Richardson was never able to replicate the same success in the NFL that made him a standout back for Abilene Christian University. Regardless Richardson still can shine in the passing game as a receiving back due to his sure hands and quick feet. Richardson like the other backs will be getting another opportunity in a professional football league, and come February we will see if they can take advantage of it.
*This is only part 1 of the current RB roster look out for part 2 coming soon!
